Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 5 premiered on 26 March 2023 with Mohanlal returning as host. Asianet carried the television broadcast and Disney+ Hotstar provided digital streaming.
The season opened with 18 contestants and introduced a notable casting milestone: Gopika Gopi became the first commoner contestant in the Malayalam edition through a public-audition route. Hanan Hamid, Omar Lulu and Anu Joseph later joined as wildcard contestants.
The final weeks included the first full Family Week in the Malayalam edition and a six-task Ticket to Finale series. Nadira Mehrin led that points table with 52 points, then later chose the money-box option and left before the grand finale.
