Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 2 premiered on 5 January 2020 with Mohanlal returning as host. Seventeen original contestants entered on launch night.
The cast expanded through several wildcard phases. Daya Aswathy and Jazla Madasseri entered first, followed by RJ Sooraj and Pavan Gino Thomas. Amritha Suresh and Abhirami Suresh later entered together and competed as a joint game entry.
The season faced multiple disruptions, including an eye-infection outbreak that temporarily removed several contestants and the permanent expulsion of Rajith Kumar after a task-related rule violation.
