Biography

Rakhi Vijan, also known as Rakhee Tandon, is a celebrated Indian actress and television personality who rose to fame during the mid-1990s. Born into a Punjabi family, she is the daughter of Narinder Vijan and Geeta Saigal Vijan, and she grew up alongside her brother Rishi and sister Pooja. She attended college but famously dropped out to pursue her burgeoning career in the entertainment industry. She was once married to Rajiv Tandon, the brother of actress Raveena Tandon, though the couple divorced in 2010. Despite the separation, she has maintained a close and supportive bond with her former sister-in-law, often describing their relationship as being like real sisters.

Her professional career began in the early 1990s with her debut in the classic sitcom Dekh Bhai Dekh. However, her massive breakthrough came in 1995 with the Zee TV comedy series Hum Paanch, where she portrayed the iconic character Sweety Mathur. Her performance as the bubbly, music-loving, and somewhat eccentric daughter made her a household name across India. Following this success, she appeared in a variety of other popular television shows, including Banegi Apni Baat, Heena, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, and the supernatural thriller Naagin 4. More recently, she was seen in the StarPlus show Faltu (2022–2023) and has continued to participate in high-profile industry events, such as the Zee Rishtey Awards in 2024.

In addition to her extensive work in television, she has made notable forays into film and reality media. She appeared in Bollywood movies such as Golmaal Returns, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, and Krrish 3. In 2008, she expanded her public profile by participating as a contestant in the second season of the reality show Bigg Boss, though her stint in the house was relatively short-lived. Over the years, she has been recognized for her impeccable comic timing and has frequently been featured at major award ceremonies, including the Golden Petal Awards.

In the digital and social media space, she remains an active and engaging figure. She frequently connects with her fans through platforms like Instagram, sharing glimpses of her personal life, her love for fashion, and her holiday celebrations. Throughout her career, she has maintained a professional yet warm public image, often speaking candidly in interviews about her journey, her resilience through personal hardships, and her excitement for the enduring legacy of shows like Hum Paanch, which continues to find new audiences through reruns and digital streaming.
