Ashutosh Kaushik
Biography
Ashutosh Kaushik is a well-known Indian actor and reality television star who first gained national fame as a pioneer of the reality show era in India. Born on October 2, 1979, in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, he spent his early years in a middle-class household. Before his transition into the limelight, he operated a family dhaba in his hometown. His educational background is notable for a significant mid-career achievement; despite famously stating that he struggled with reading and writing at the time he signed his first major television contracts, he later pursued higher education and successfully earned an LLB degree, officially becoming a law graduate and an advocate.
His career journey began with a persistent effort to enter the entertainment world, which eventually led to his selection for the fifth season of MTV Roadies in 2007. Despite being considered an underdog, his raw and unfiltered personality resonated with the audience, leading him to emerge as the winner of the season. Building on this momentum, he participated in the second season of Bigg Boss in 2008. Competing against established celebrities, he made history by becoming the first non-celebrity contestant to win the show, securing a prize of ₹1 crore and solidifying his status as a major television personality.
Following his reality show triumphs, he transitioned into acting and appeared in several Bollywood films. His filmography includes roles in movies such as Zila Ghaziabad, Kismat Love Paisa Dilli, Shortcut Romeo, and more recently, the 2023 film Zindagi Shatranj Hai. In addition to his film work, he made appearances on television programs like Comedy Circus - Chinchpokli to China, Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, and Desi Girl. He has also explored the digital space, acting in web series such as Tiwari and working as a VJ with the Watcho OTT application.
In recent years, he has maintained a unique presence that balances his entertainment career with his roots in Saharanpur. He successfully manages a chain of dhabas in his hometown, which has reportedly thrived as a business venture. He has also been active in the digital space through his own YouTube channel and remains an influential figure on social media, where he shares glimpses of his life and professional updates. In 2021, he garnered significant media attention for his legal petition regarding the "right to be forgotten," seeking to have certain past incidents removed from search results to protect his personal and professional reputation. As of early 2026, he continues to be recognized as one of the most resilient and authentic figures to have emerged from the early wave of Indian reality television.
