Nagarjuna
Biography
Akkineni Nagarjuna, often referred to as the "King" of Tollywood, has become the definitive face of Bigg Boss Telugu, steering the popular reality show through the majority of its run. While the series debuted with Jr NTR and saw Nani as the host for its second installment, Nagarjuna took over the mantle in 2019 with Season 3. Since then, he has maintained a continuous and dominant presence, hosting seven consecutive seasons (Season 3 through Season 9) and the show's first digital-only spin-off, Bigg Boss Non-Stop, in 2022. Under his tenure, the show has consistently aired in the Telugu language on Star Maa and Disney+ Hotstar (shifting to JioHotstar for Season 9), solidifying its place as a cultural phenomenon in the Telugu-speaking states over more than six years of his involvement.
Throughout his journey, Nagarjuna’s hosting style has evolved from a curious newcomer to a seasoned mentor who balances charm with strict authority. He is known for his "weekend war" episodes where he addresses housemate conflicts with a signature mix of wit and sternness. Notable moments from his tenure include his emotional confrontation with Akhil Sarthak in Season 4 and his firm stance against foul language in Season 5. He has also been instrumental in introducing game-changing twists, such as the "Power Astra" in Season 7 and the "2.0 Launch" which introduced multiple wildcards simultaneously. His ability to connect with the families of contestants during "Family Week" has earned him the reputation of being a "host with a heart," making the show more than just a competition but a televised emotional journey.
Despite his massive popularity, Nagarjuna's tenure has not been without its share of controversies and public scrutiny. Early in his journey, during Season 3, he had to address serious "casting couch" allegations filed against the show's organizers by aspiring contestants, maintaining a professional distance while expressing faith in the legal system. In later years, particularly during Season 9, he faced significant social media backlash and accusations of favoritism. Viewers specifically criticized his perceived bias toward certain contestants, such as Madhuri Duvvada, and his tendency to overlook the mistakes of wildcard entries while being overly critical of others. Furthermore, the show frequently encountered legal hurdles, including police complaints filed in Hyderabad alleging that the content was "indecent" or "misleading for youth," yet Nagarjuna's star power and the show's high TRP ratings have consistently weathered these storms.
