Arshad Warsi

Biography

Arshad Warsi holds a unique place in Indian television history as the original host who introduced the Bigg Boss franchise to the nation. Tasked with leading the inaugural season of the Hindi-language reality show, Warsi brought a distinct, light-hearted, and candid energy that helped establish the "Big Brother" format in India. Season 1 premiered on November 3, 2006, on Sony Entertainment Television and ran for a duration of 86 days, concluding on January 26, 2007. During this stint, he managed a house filled with high-profile celebrities such as Rakhi Sawant, Ravi Kishan, and Rahul Roy, with the latter eventually emerging as the winner.

As a host, Warsi was noted for his ability to balance humor with the gravity of the show’s eliminations and internal conflicts. His performance was critically acclaimed, earning him the Indian Television Academy Award for Best Anchor (Game/Quiz Show) in 2007. Despite the season's success, Warsi did not return for the second installment; he later revealed in interviews that his replacement was due to prior film commitments and a shooting schedule in London that conflicted with the show's production. He has since been vocal in his support of Salman Khan, often stating that Khan's "Dabangg" persona is a perfect fit for the show's evolving controversial nature.

After a hiatus of nearly two decades, Warsi made a nostalgic return to the Bigg Boss stage in September 2025 during the show’s nineteenth season. He stepped in alongside Akshay Kumar to host a special "Weekend Ka Vaar" episode in the absence of Salman Khan, who was filming a movie project. This return was a significant event for long-time viewers, as it marked 18 years since his original tenure. Throughout his involvement, Warsi has maintained a candid perspective on the show, once famously admitting that he rarely watches it as a viewer because he finds it difficult to "enjoy other people's misery.
